In a remarkable step toward redefining eco-tourism in Luzon, Kaway’an Ecofarm is set to unveil the region’s largest bamboo pavilion, a testament to the innovative potential of sustainable bamboo architecture. Nestled in the heart of General Trias, Cavite, this eco-tourism destination is poised to merge sustainability, architectural brilliance, and natural beauty to create a unique experience for its visitors.
At the centerpiece of the 3-hectare ecofarm is the Maharlika Grand Hall, an awe-inspiring structure brought to life in collaboration with some of the world’s foremost experts in bamboo construction. Bali-based Bamboo Pure, globally recognized for its groundbreaking bamboo structures, spearheaded the design and construction of the pavilion. With over a decade of experience, Bamboo Pure, in partnership with the renowned IBUKU design firm and a team of skilled Balinese craftsmen, has delivered more than 100 architectural masterpieces across the globe. Their expertise is now evident in Kaway’an Ecofarm’s Maharlika Grand Hall.
The Maharlika Grand Hall, situated in the upper right, is constructed with steel frames and adorned with intricate bamboo poles topped with a copper sheet. The structure is named after the Maharlika class, a prominent group among the elites of pre-colonial Philippines.The Maharlika Grand Hall integrates both imported giant bamboo from Bali and locally sourced Kawayang Tinik bamboo. This blend of sustainable materials is complemented by steel and copper accents, with architectural oversight by Architect Christian Salandanan of Sangay Architects—the same team behind the Polo Pavilion used to host the King of Brunei and Sultan of Malaysia during the 2019 SEA Games.
The Marahuyo Bridge, another bamboo structure on the property, truly lives up to its enchanting name. Spanning the man-made lagoon, it glows warmly under the ecofarm’s night sky.Beyond its architectural centerpiece, Kaway’an Ecofarm offers a diverse range of attractions, including farm plots, greenhouses, vibrant gardens, a tranquil man-made lagoon, and scenic trails. These features collectively aim to provide an immersive, eco-friendly escape for visitors. Slated for its grand opening in the third quarter of 2025, the ecofarm promises to be a haven of natural splendor and sustainable innovation.
